Rebecca Johnson

 

Illinois-based flutist Rebecca Johnson has been on the faculty of Eastern Illinois University since 2007 and is a member of the chamber orchestra, Sinfonia da Camera. Internationally, she has performed and taught at the Convención Internacionál de las Flautistas in Quito, Ecuador since 2009. Dr. Johnson was first involved in the National Flute Association as the Assistant Program Chair for the 2008 convention and served as the Exhibitor Concert and Showcase Coordinator from 2008-2013. She is serving the organization as Secretary through the end of October. She has been invited to perform at the National Flute Association convention consecutively since 2010.

Recent projects include a presentation at the Midwest Clinic, a lecture at the British Flute Society Convention and a recital at the International Women’s Brass Conference. Dr. Johnson was awarded a Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarship to attend the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England where she studied with renowned flutist Peter Lloyd.

Dr. Johnson holds degrees from the University of Illinois (DMA), the University of Louisville (MM), the Royal Northern College of Music (PGDip, PPRNCM) and the University of Northern Iowa (BM). Her major teachers include Dianne Aboud, Angeleita Floyd, Kathleen Karr, Jonathan Keeble and Peter Lloyd. 

 

Teacher

Eastern Illinois University provides an undergraduate-focused education in Charleston, Illinois. The flute studio is comprised of undergraduate music majors including BA, BM Performance and BM Teacher Licensure. Graduate students earn an MA with a concentration in an area of their choice, typically performance, conducting or composition. For more information, please see the EIU Music Department's Homepage.

Chamber Musician

Rebecca is a part of several small chamber groups, mostly comprised of current and former colleagues from Eastern Illinois University, and loosely called Musique Avec Des Amis. Frequently, she appears with Cara Chowning, piano, Magie Smith, clarinet, and Elizabeth Sullivan, oboe.
